NYT Ignore US Responsibility For 'World Of Trouble'

By Stephen Lendman
11-30-16

Suggesting “concerns about his ability to manage the international challenges he will face in office” continues relentless Trump bashing.

“A World of Trouble” awaits him, said Times editors - mostly of Washington’s making, they failed to explain. Trump’s geopolitical agenda remains to be seen.

“An early test may be North Korea,” Times editors claimed. It’s sought normalized relations with Washington and other Western countries for decades. Instead it’s used as an imperial punching bag, its security threatened - relations with America unlikely to change under Trump or other duopoly power leader.

Times editors: “American forces are engaged in major battles to liberate Mosul in Iraq and Raqqa in Syria from the Islamic State and are fighting extremists elsewhere.”

Fact: Washington supports ISIS and other terrorist groups. No US battles are confronting them anywhere.

Times editors: Trump “talked of abandoning American support for rebels trying to oust President Bashar al-Assad and joining the alliance between Mr. Assad and Russia, Mr. Assad’s partner in bombing Syrian civilians.”

Fact: Trump indicated willingness to partner with Russia in combating terrorism in Syria.

Fact: All anti-government forces are terrorists. No so-called “rebels (meaning moderates) exist.

Fact: No evidence suggests Russian or Syrian warplanes bomb civilians. Plenty proves America and so-called coalition partners killed thousands of noncombatants in Syria and Iraq - terror-bombing them since 2014.

Times editors: “(T)here’s no end to the five-year civil war, which has created chaos, allowing ISIS to thrive and claim large parts of Syrian territory.”

Fact: Syria is Obama’s war, naked aggression, nothing “civil” about it, using ISIS and other terrorist groups as imperial foot soldiers.

Times editors: “Syrians…brutalized (by) Assad…are unlikely to accept (his) remain(ing) in power indefinitely.”

Fact: He was overwhelmingly re-elected in June 2014, a process independent international observers judged open, free and fair. Syrians want no one else leading them.

Times editors: “Mr. Trump has vowed to tear up the 2015 deal under which Iran halted its most dangerous nuclear activities in exchange for the lifting of most international sanctions.”

Fact: Iran’s nuclear program fully complies with Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty principles - earlier and now. It’s entirely legitimate with no military component.

Fact: Tehran fully observes the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) nuclear deal. Washington breached it straightaway, remaining in noncompliance.

Fact: It’s an international agreement involving the five permanent Security Council members plus Germany. Trump won’t unilaterally disavow it. He may violate its terms, exceeding Obama’s breaches.

Times editors: Trump “spoke casually about possibly retaliating against the Islamic State with a nuclear weapon…”

Fact: The way to defeat the Islamic State and other terrorist groups is by ceasing support. Without it, they’ll wither and fade away.

Times editors: “Mr. Trump’s questioning of the value of NATO, other alliances and America’s role in the world has shaken the core institutions that kept the peace in Europe and elsewhere for decades.”

Fact: Peace for decades? It lawlessly raped and destroyed Yugoslavia, Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Yemen, and Somalia! NATO is a US-dominated killing machine - for offense, not defense.

Times editors: Trump displayed no concern for Russian expansionism in Ukraine. His plan to withdraw from the Trans-Pacific Partnership suggests a willingness to allow China to expand its influence in Asia…The world has long relied on the United States to be a steady hand.”

Fact: No Russian expansionism exists anywhere. Putin promotes world peace and stability. Endless US wars in multiple theaters threaten humanity’s survival.

Fact: TPP and other destructive deals like it are neoliberal ripoffs, giveaways to corporate predators, freedom and ecosystem destroying nightmares.

Fact: America has no business meddling in parts of the world not its own. Its imperial project threatens everyone.

Times editors see “little reason to believe (Trump) will provide strong leadership.” The proof of the pudding will come after he takes office.
