The NYT Bashes Trump for
Attacking Obama’s Legacy

Trump and Obama are variations on the same theme, servants of wealth, power and privilege at the expense of political, economic and social justice they, their predecessors and vast majority in Congress reject.

The Times deplorably praised Obama for his “health care program, his sweeping trade deal with Asia, his global climate change accord and his diplomatic opening to Cuba.”

Fact: Obamacare was a giveaway to predatory insurers, drug companies and large hospital chains, millions left uninsured, most others way underinsured - a disastrous plan beginning to crumble under its own weight.

Fact: His NAFTA on steroids TPP deal was a corporate designed coup d’etat, a giveaway to bankers, a neoliberal ripoff, a freedom and ecosystem destroying nightmare.

Fact: Trump reneged on abandoning NAFTA. Material leaked showed he largely intends replicating TPP’s final text - breaching his pledge to working-class Americans.

Fact: The Paris climate agreement was little more than rich nations moving the goal posts, according to Friends of the Earth International. Its piecemeal pledges were largely hype and deception, tough principles entirely lacking.

Fact: Obama’s “new course on Cuba” was old wine in new bottles, dirty business as usual dressed up to appear otherwise - strategy and tactics changing, not objectives.

The Times suppressed what’s most important to explain, saying Trump is “tak(ing) a political sledgehammer to (Obama’s) legacy. (He’s) tearing down what (his predecessor) built.”

“(R)arely has a new president appeared so determined not just to steer the country in a different direction but to actively dismantle what was established before his arrival.”

Hyperbole and deception substitute for Times reporting, commentaries and analysis. In his first five months in office, Trump’s deplorable agenda resembles Obama’s on steroids.

He escalated his predecessor’s wars of aggression, threatens news ones on North Korea and Iran, another coup attempt in Venezuela likely to try replacing democratic governance and Bolivarian fairness with US-controlled puppet rule.

He abandoned efforts to improve relations with Russia, now going along with the Big Lie, falsely claiming Putin ordered last year’s presidential election hacked to harm Hillary.

He’s beholden to Wall Street, war-profiteers, other corporate favorites, and high-net-worth Americans like the agenda Obama pursued throughout his tenure - orchestrating the greatest wealth transfer from ordinary Americans to business and its privileged class in US history.

He’s governing under a police state apparatus like the Clintons, Bush/Cheney and Obama.

After each electoral cycle in America, everything changes but stays the same. Rare exceptions prove the rule.

Trump isn’t wrecking Obama’s legacy. He’s shifting it to reflect his own way of doing things, core US policies largely the same under all administrations since the neoliberal 90s, each new one more extremist and dismal than ones preceding it.

Trump may be worst of all, but it’s hardly an endorsement for policies pursued by his predecessors.

He’s not reversing policies as much reshaping them in his own image.

The trouble with America isn’t its leadership. Its debauched deep state-controlled system is the root of the problem only revolutionary change can fix.
