NYT Opposes Abandoning TPP

By Stephen Lendman
11-21-16

TPP is NAFTA on steroids if enacted - an anti-consumer, jobs-destroying corporate coup d’etat, a freedom and ecosystem-wrecking nightmare.

The New York Times supports it. One-sided editorials, commentaries and articles promote what demands denunciation and abandonment.

It’s not about so-called “free trade.” Enactment would mean greater corporate control of our lives and welfare than already, profiting at the public’s expense. An earlier article explained it would:

offshore millions of US  jobs;

free banksters and other corporate predators from oversight;

ban buy America policies needed to create green (and many other) jobs (as well as) rebuild our economy;

decrease access to affordable medicines;

flood America with unsafe food and other products; and

empower corporations to attack environmental and health safeguards.

New York Times editors claim retreating from TPP will empower China. It’s heading toward becoming the world’s dominant economic power, surpassing America in the years ahead - with or without TPP.

Quoting Obama’s Big Lie about it being “a plus for America’s economy, for American jobs, (and failure to enact it) undermines our position across the region,” Times editors promoted his deception, saying:

“If done right, the pact could stimulate exports while helping to reduce environmental destruction and improve the lives of workers” in signatory countries. It’ll “play a strategic role in American diplomacy.”

It’ll aid “the nation’s role as a Pacific power and counter the rising influence of China” - excluded from the deal.

“Washington’s abandonment of the pact is widely seen in the region as a blow to American prestige and an opening for China to negotiate trade rules, win friends among Asian nations and assert regional leadership.”

America recklessly asserts its muscle in parts of the world not its own, meddling in the internal affairs of other nations - politically, economically and militarily.

It seeks dominance in contrast to Sino/Russian efforts for mutual cooperation among all nations, using carrots, not sticks.
