The word "blog" is a ridiculous contraction of 'web log' and an ugly word.  It sounds like someone walking through a swamp in too-small wellington boots.

The word was developed and pushed by the mainstream media to denigrate opinions held by non-aligned individuals.  So, I don't read anything that independent writers call "blogs" because if they can't work out why they are calling their opinions "blogs" then they probably can't work out much else, either...
