The practice has produced massively criminal outlaws that we used to call congress, the government or the courts—all three are now just the basic components (or the starting points) for the Corporatocracy of the global-world-government.

“RANCHO MIRAGE — Two-and-a-half years after his release from federal prison for bilking the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians and other tribes out of tens of millions of dollars, ex-lobbyist Jack Abramoff on Wednesday told a Rancho Mirage Speakers Series audience how it happened and how to keep it from happening again.

Abramoff, one of the subjects of a three-day Desert Sun investigative series into tribal gaming, which began Sunday, said as he assembled a cadre of 40 lobbyists for the Washington D.C. firm Greenberg Traurig, “we developed a very dangerous ethos, of the ends justify the means.”

In 2002, Abramoff and lobbying firm partner Michael Scanlon secured a contract with the Agua Caliente tribe through a tribal council vote, which yielded them $10.2 million in less than two years.

In 2004, the U.S. Senate Committee on Indian Affairs found that Abramoff and Scanlon drained six Native American tribal governments of $82 million by charging them exorbitant fees to lobby members of Congress, attempted to manipulate elections to stay in power and bragged to each other via email about their exploits.

Abramoff, whose father has a home in Rancho Mirage, ended up with some time to think about what he’d done, serving nearly four years in federal prison. His first book was released in late 2011, and lays out his crimes and his proposals for reform.

Before Abramoff spoke, Jim Latting, a Palm Desert resident who worked as a legislative aide to a U.S. senator in the 1970s, said he was interested in Abramoff’s shady past as well as his ideas for change.

“I think he has those ideas for reform because of his personal experiences, and what he did,” Latting said.

Abramoff told an audience of about 450, in the Helene Galen Auditorium on the campus of Eisenhower Medical Center in Rancho Mirage, that he is helping to draft legislation to reform Congress and its relationship with the lobbyists who are able to command huge sums by using money, gifts and other tools to win members to their clients’ sides.

Abramoff said, “Ninety-nine point nine percent of what I did was legal, but so much of it was reprehensible.”

And some of the reforms enacted after the scandal that bears his name have made things worse — for example, an exemption on gift limits applied to fundraisers.

He said his proposals, which he’s working on with United Republic, Public Citizen and other groups, would limit the money going into the system from interested parties.

“We will eliminate, virtually, the ability of lobbyists to give money — eliminate, virtually, the ability of lobbyists to bundle money,” he said. “If you want a government loan or government money — something special for you — you are a special interest or you are a lobbyist, and you are restricted.”

He also endorses a 10-year ban on members of Congress and their staffers from becoming lobbyists, and personally backs term limits for senators and representatives, as well.

“Almost all of the time, they become a problem", he said.

In response to one audience member’s suggestion, he said he would not ban lobbyists, because most do their work in an ethical manner.

“The federal government is involved in every aspect of our lives, and you’re in trouble if you don’t have a lobbyist in Washington,” he said.

“The context in which we looked at that is they’re sovereign governmental entities and they have a relationship with the federal government,” said Abramoff.

In January 2006, Abramoff pleaded guilty to mail fraud, conspiracy and tax evasion charges related to his dealings with four tribes including the Agua Caliente, and was sentenced to four years in prison in September 2008.

The plea deal took into account Abramoff’s cooperation with a Justice Department probe which led to the conviction of former Rep. Bob Ney, R-Ohio, and nine other officials.

He was first incarcerated in 2006 on a separate fraud charge.

Abramoff, now 53, inspired two films released in 2010, a documentary and a feature starring Kevin Spacey.

His autobiography, “Capitol Punishment: The Hard Truth About Washington Corruption from America’s Most Notorious Lobbyist”, was released in 2011 and traced his careers as a political consultant and Hollywood movie producer until a Washington Post investigation triggered his downfall.

He lives in Maryland today, and fans out across the country to speak to general audiences and other groups to spread his message of reform, along with the story of how he got where he was.

He said he is working on his second book, about partisan gridlock in Washington, for which his working thesis is it’s here for the foreseeable future. “You don’t get anything done unless you have the right and the left,” he said.

“Israel bombed a suspected shipment of antiaircraft missiles in Syria on Wednesday, according to regional and U.S. officials, in its most ambitious strike inside its neighbor’s territory in nearly two chaotic years of civil war there,” reports the Wall Street Journal. “The early-morning strike in a border area west of Damascus targeted a convoy of trucks carrying Russian-made SA-17 missiles to Hezbollah, the anti-Israel Shiite militant and political group in Lebanon, according to a Western official briefed on the raid.”

“Syria maintained that the accounts of a strike on an arms convoy near the country’s border with Lebanon were wrong. Instead, Syria’s military said, Israeli jets had attacked a military facility near Damascus,” the Journal reports. “‘Israeli warplanes violated our airspace at dawn today and directly struck one of the scientific research centers responsible for elevating resistance and self-defense capabilities in the area of Jamraya in the Damascus countryside,’ Syria’s military said in a statement carried by the official Sana news agency. The attack killed two workers and injured five others, it said, and ’caused significant material damage and the destruction of the complex’ and an adjacent parking lot. Syrian activists say the Jamraya site is in a mountainous area of military facilities and training camps located on a heavily guarded road just off the main Damascus-Beirut highway. Later Wednesday, a U.S. official said the accounts of two targets—a convoy of weapons, and a military site—weren’t mutually exclusive. The U.S. believes Israeli warplanes bombed a Hezbollah-bound convoy of antiaircraft missiles, U.S. officials said. The vehicles may have been close to a military facility, they said, cautioning their information remained incomplete.”

Meanwhile, “Iran threatened that a reported Israeli strike in Syria would have ‘grave consequences for Tel Aviv’ on Thursday, days after saying that an attack on Syria would be seen as an attack on Iran,” reports the Times of Israel. “Syria added that the attacks ‘would not go unanswered.” “(3)

All our problems are problems because we have refused to charge or investigate any of our current OUTLAWS for either their national or international crimes against humanity or anything else.
