Caribbean Coral Being Destroyed By Human Sewage
90% Of The Coral In The FL Keys Is Dead

From Patricia Doyle, PhD
8-20-11

Hello Jeff - This is just terrible news. In the past 15 years there has been a 90% decline in Elkhorn Coral in and around the Florida Keys. Given the fact that this is one of the most important reef-building species, this is a terrible predictor of the future of this species of coral, and all coral.

The saddest part is that the decline is due to human activity, namely due to sewage. The bacteria causing the disease and decline lives in the human gut.

We have not been very good caretakers of our planet's environment and of other species.

Patty
