- Hello Jeff - I hope that I have read this article incorrectly,
but I don't think so. It appears to me that Leprosy affected people
were encouraged to donate blood. In a politically-correct effort to change
people's negative conception of Leprosy, Dr. Hugh Cross encouraged Leprosy
affected people to donate blood.
-
- Where will this insanity end? Will they next encourage
HIV/AIDS and HCV infected people to donate blood? There are a lot of diseases
that provoke negative reactions from the public, such as HIV and HCV, not
to mention CJD. Are we going to allow people to receive tainted blood
from these infected people for the sake of making a statement about certain
diseases and their negative connotations? How many blood recipients will
become infected with Leprosy to make those who donted feel better about
themselves?
-
- This is ludicrous.

- JANAKPUR -- In a rare event, people affected by leprosy
donated blood in Janakpur on Wednesday. Ten leprosy-affected people, including
four women and six men, donated blood at a function organized by the alliance
of American Leprosy Mission and The Leprosy Mission International, said
the organizers.
-
- In total, 25 people donated blood during the event. Dr.
Hugh Cross, the country leader of the alliance, claimed this is the first
time in global history that leprosy-affected people have donated blood
at a formal function.
-
-
- There might be isolated cases of leprosy-affected people
donating blood. But Wednesday´s blood donation in Janakpur is the
first time a group of leprosy-affected donated blood at a formal function,
he said.
-
- The doctor expressed hope that the event would contribute
toward changing people´s negative perception about those affected
by leprosy.
