- Images from the American League Championship during the
Sudden Death Overtime of our civilization.
-
- I was watching the Texas Rangers beat the New York Yankees
in Game Six of the American League Championship series. Not that it matters
whether Texas or New York wins. It's a diversion. But what a show!
-
- And why did the stadium in the TV picture turn red for
a few seconds?
-
- An incredible high def signal showed every blade of grass
on the perfectly manicured playing field. Amazing, lifelike color. The
shot from center field showed at least 50 people sitting behind home plate,
and you see and feel the expression on each of their faces.

-
-
- What voyeurism!
-
- The pitcher throws a hanging breaking ball, the batter
swings and connects with a CRACK!
-
- The director immediately cuts to a wide shot looking
out to center field, the center fielder races for all he is worth, but
runs out of room. A home run! The crowd goes wild. The perfectly directed
shots come in quick and breathtaking succession. A shot of the batter rounding
second base, heading for home.

-
-
- Heroic, inspirational theme music comes up full.
-
- Fireworks erupt. The camera gets a stunning shot of the
fireworks smoke trails in the twilight sky. The tendrils of smoke look
ominous, evoking the Challenger disaster, 9/11, distress flares.

-
-
- Cut to a shot from the blimp, the green grass surreal
in the artificial stadium light, the smoke from the fireworks giving it
a 3 D effect.
-
- This is the part I don't understand. View the attached
image. At one point- for several seconds- the stadium and the crowd turns
an odd color of red. It happens fast. I had to watch it several times.
The TV image takes on a hellish red glow. I work in TV. I edit video. How
and why did the image turn red? You either have to change the color of
the lighting, or set the color balance of the camera differently, or apply
a filter.
-
-
-
-
-
- The red glow was almost subliminal.
-
- Then a close-up low angle high def shot of the batter
crossing the plate, with the ominous clouds of smoke in the sky behind
him. The smoke has turned into a ghostly apparition, a phantasm perfectly
framed over the batter's shoulder. Light on one side, a ghost on the other.

-
-
-
- The owner of the Texas Rangers, Mr. Chuck Greenberg celebrates
victory.
-

-
-
- It is a great moment in sports. It is eye candy. Crack
cocaine for the TV addict. Never mind your 401K, don't think about your
loss of freedoms, who cares that your once great country is bankrupt? They're
going to replay the home run in slow motion!
