Hawaii Considers Bill To Ban
Fluoridation Of Drinking Water
The Idaho Observer - Feb 2001

HONOLULU - The state legislature here will be considering precedent-setting bills that could make it illegal for fluoride to be added to public drinking water. HB 1627, SB 452 and SB 1289 will be debated in committee and are expected to reach the floor for a vote during the 2001 legislative session.

Though voters in hundreds of cities across the U.S. have kept the known carcinogen and immunosuppressive byproduct of phosphate fertilizer and aluminum production out of their municipal water supplies, Hawaii could become the first state to criminalize the placement of fluoride in water provided to the public.

The move is in direct conflict with various agencies in the federal government that are in favor of fluoridation mandates. The federal government supports policies that guarantee public exposure to the non-FDA approved toxin that has never been scientifically proven to prevent tooth decay.

In recent years an exponentially growing number of activists have been protesting the use of fluoride to mass medicate the public. Their efforts are having an effect as cities that have been placing fluoride into the water are discontinuing the policy through public pressure. Furthermore, cities that propose water fluoridation to the voting public are being denied the right to fluoridate.

If Hawaii passes the bills into law, it will set a precedent that will cause activists from all over the country to pressure their respective state legislatures to copy the legislative example set in Hawaii.

"Everything causes cancer? Perhaps. Conceivably even a single electron at the other side of the universe. The real question is, how likely is any one particular cause? In point of fact, fluoride causes more human cancer, and causes it faster, than any other chemical," commented Dean Burk, Chief Chemist Emeritus U.S. National Cancer Institute.

Water fluoridation opponents should follow the events developing in Hawaii and get ready to take this case to their respective state legislatures.
