- It was to be a triumphal moment at the Washington DC
press conference Monday afternoon, announcing imminent Senate passage of
Sen. Kennedy's hate bill amendment. The chief pillars of the hate bill
were to be there: Michael Lieberman of the Anti-Defamation League (the
ADL is chief architect of the federal hate bill and hate crime laws worldwide);
fellow Jewish activist Joe Solomonese, head of the Human Rights Campaign,
representing the homosexual/pederast lobbies; Senate Majority Leader Harry
Reid, embodying attempts by the Democrat majority and Obama to make America
into a hate crime bureaucracy like Canada's ending free speech.
-
- Yet this grand gesture of hate bill ascendance fizzled!
Sen. Reid announced that Democrat powerbrokers abandoned the Travel Promotion
Act as a vehicle to pass Kennedy's amendment. The travel bill may have
been too unrelated to the hate crimes issue and another more germane bill
is already selected. S. 909 remains like a disappointed passenger waiting
for another train to take it where it has been trying to go since 1997.
-
- But that train could come at any moment and be moving
fast! It didn't come Wednesday as the Senate debated healthcare reform.
But Kennedy and the Democrats must be increasingly anxious to stay on the
media-hyped wave of anxiety over hate crime terrorism generated by the
Holocaust museum shooting. If that wave subsides over the weekend or the
public is distracted by other issues, Democrats may lose the best moment
for hate bill passage since Matt Shepard's murder.
-
- On Tuesday morning, I called Janet Porter of Faith2Action
and warned her of Democrat strategy. I sent her Monday's Washington Blade
article predicting passage by Tuesday or Wednesday. On her nationally syndicated
radio broadcast program, she powerfully warned evangelical Christians listening
to her 80 affiliate stations. Afterwards, she personally alerted the largest
conservative watchdog groups, some of whom, like the American Family Association
promised massive protest.
-
- Instead of going forward to almost certain victory, the
Democrats, by their indecision have empowered renewed opportunity for heavy
opposition.
-
- I believe Kennedy and the Democrats will make every effort
this week to repair Monday's false start and move their amendment forward.
The hate bill rattlesnake may have been bruised a little on Monday, but
is very alive and poised to strike out against freedom.
-
- Don't stop calling. We want the hate bill kept in the
Senate Judiciary where it properly belongs until fair and exhaustive hearings
have been held. Call every day to all 100 Senators (<http://www.truthtellers.org/actionplan.html>names
available HERE at www.truthtellers.org.) Call toll-free 1-877-851-6437
or toll 1-202- 225-3121.
-
- Tell Senators, "I protest Senator Kennedy's high-handed
attempt to pass the hate crimes bill by amendment, without hearings in
the Judiciary. If the Senator votes for the pedophile-protecting bill,
I and my friends will never forgive or forget!" Tell Senate staffers
to watch the dynamic nine-minute video "Stop the Pedophile-Protecting
Hate Bill!" on the homepage of <http://www.truthtellers.org>www.truthtellers.org.
-
- On Monday, the Democrats made a serious mistake in dissipating
their element of surprise and hate bill momentum, but this is typical of
the bungling that has cost them hate bill passage five times over the last
12 years. In response to your prayer and activism, God has repeatedly rescued
us by inspiring last-minute confusion in the hate bill ranks.
-
- This is a time to exert equal faith and action. God is
even more opposed to hate bill passage than we. If we unite our hearts
with His through repentance and righteous indignation, He will confirm
His decree:
-
- "With God nothing shall be called impossible."
(Luke 1:37)
