Experts advise against using tasers on bears because they are inhumane and potentially harmful, perhaps we should rethink their use on 6-year-olds, 80-year-olds, and diabetics having seizures.

Black Bear Hit With Taser, Dies

Refused To Go Back To Woods

ORLANDO, Fla. -- A Florida black bear that visited a neighborhood and refused to return to the woods, died after it was hit with a Taser, authorities said.

The state is trying to train police and residents to deal with bears, WESH 2 News reported.

Bear encounters are becoming very common. In Tuesday's incident, the Orlando Police Department went to the Oak Crest neighborhood and rousted the bear out of a garage and shot it with a Taser two times.

After being hit with the Taser, the animal was tied up around the neck and paws.

State officers said the bear most likely died from strangulation or extreme stress.

State bear experts said that a taser is not something that should be used to drive a bear from a neighborhood, and have new weapons to keep bears and people apart.

The new weapon is called a super sock and is not deadly. A state bear expert said that super sock is just "a bunch of lead shot that's encased in a Kelvar bag." The sock is fired from a shotgun and delivers a sting to a bear.

Another weapon used are cracker shells. The noise and smoke drive bears away.

Officers said they had none of these weapons Tuesday when they encountered a bear and had to use a Taser.

A Fish and Wildlife Officer, after looking at a YouTube video of an Alabama police officer tasing a bear said that tasers should not be used to deal with the animals.

"We've got the Feds, the State, local and county all on board to use these detterent methods," Mike Orlando with the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

Experts said that people should keep their garbage in their garage to try and keep bears from being attracted to their homes.
