- A recent experience compelled me to write this commentary
that is not merely an observation but rather has become a part of our lives
here in the US. What I am referring to, is the notion of fear, and the
ultimate complicity of those that are duped by fear to remain silent. It
is nothing new that the action of an individual in a position of power
is not that of that one individual but rather a decision reflecting a collection
thought on the part of those with common purpose. However, the complicity
of the masses to the perpetuation of that ill conceived action becomes
evident when the masses choose to remain silent, or silenced by sheer fear,
or fear of being marked as undesired.
-
- Undoubtedly, George W Bush and company have contributed
to the disaster the world is facing, but he alone has not created this
mess, you, the people are equally complicit. Yes, your paycheck subtracts
taxes the government has institutionalized and yes it is difficult to prevent
your taxes from being used in the murder and genocide of other people,
however, you have a choice to do what is within reach of your individual
endeavor. But you choose not. You may ask, what could that individual endeavor
entail in the larger scheme of things? It could range from saving an orphan's
life to building a hospital in the affected areas of the world.
-
- It is worth mentioning that one such opportunity that
provided a medium for individual efforts to do some good was my book "Afghanistan
After Democracy: the untold story through photographic images". But
unfortunately, you chose inaction and contribution to the perpetuation
of horrors created by this government than to lend hand in the undoing
of horrors created by the government of the United States through your
tax dollars. Yes, I understand, you have no control over the taxes you
pay; I am aware of that. However, as I pointed out above, you could contribute
in a very small portion to the undoing of the destruction caused by this
government.
-
- Instead, most of you remained silent and pursued your
cowardice existence, while others have sent me emails that you could not
purchase my book because the government would target you. It is a tragedy
when a people become victims of their own ignorance. Remember, I am the
author, if the government wanted to silence anyone, it would be I, not
you, the readers.
-
- Again, you may ask, "in what way would we be contributing
to the undoing of the some of destruction caused by the US government and
our tax dollars?" The answer is simple. I produced this book to raise
funds for a hospital and a research facility to deal with the large number
cases of cancers and other conditions caused by uranium munitions used
by the US forces in Afghanistan.
-
- Be proud of your cowardly silence. And, thanks for nothing.
