Experts have perfected an anti-speeding device - using satellites. --And they are urging the Government introduce it within five years.

It uses the GPS satellite navigation system to pinpoint your car's position.

A computer in the car knows where it is and what the speed limit is for that road.

Electronics then override your car's accelerator, its brakes and your car's fuel supply to stop you putting your foot down.

Experts at Leeds University Institute for Transport Studies have tried out the system on roads in West Yorks. The Department of the Environment was so impressed that it ordered a bigger trial backed by the Motor Industry Research Association.

The Leeds team estimate it should cost just a few hundred pounds.

Dr Oliver Carston said: "The argument is overwhelmingly convincing on safety grounds."
