"When In The Course
Of Human Events"

For the last five years this nation has been breaking records for turning back the societal clock in a twisted attempt to rewrite history. The battle has been on-going between two very different views of how authority ought to be applied when it comes to governing this nation and by extension the rest of the planet.

This debate has been actively simmering for decades, and in her article of October 6, 2005 http://www.commondreams.org/views05/1010-31.htm "Granny D has described the stakes this way. "Is the heat and danger we feel not the old conflict between those who believe that authority comes from above: from an Old Testament God delivered through husbands, presidents, preachers, ayatollahs and plantation overseers to people arranged in layers according to their worth, is it not a conflict between those authoritarians and those others who believe that all men are created equal, and that the authority to govern issues forth from them, upward to their government - their common vessel of community - and not downward? Is this not the divide of 1860 and also of our own time?"

And: "Where authority and power flow down from above, from heaven to the White House to husbands and ayatollahs, the free and joyful living of people can be quite the enemy. If you remember the free spirit of those flower children who grew up in the 1960s, or example, you will remember the harsh attitudes that attended to their joys from the more traditional, often more rural, elements of our society."

"What attracted such hatred? It was their freedom, their sense of equality, and their joys."

". . . those in the clan of authority are not given the privilege " the natural right of living their own lives. They do as they are told, say and think what they are told. Smothered is their curiosity and their healthy criticism, and also their imagination, joy, freedom, and lust for life itself. When they see others actually living lives, they react with anger, as if someone had cut to the front of a line that, for them, never moves."

When one looks hard at what this administration has been playing at for the entirety of their years in office, the differences between this unsettled choice about the source of true authority in a free and democratically arranged society is evident. What we now face is a Rogue Government that is completely out-of-control, and one that goes well beyond their constitutionally designed offices; especially when they arbitrarily fail to fund the social programs they are bound to fund and administer, while at the same time they are diverting federal funds to faith-based organizations and creating no bid secret contracts to rebuild what our military illegally has destroyed, in our international wars of aggression. The role of Congress in all of this has been overlooked in the extreme, because the executive could have done none of this without congressional approval and complicity.

The same is true of the "Advise and Consent" clause in the constitution when it comes to candidates for the US Supreme Court. Candidates have to be appropriately skilled to serve all the people of this land, and not just the twisted aspirations of this imposter who pretends to be the president of this country. Given that the nine justices on that court are appointed for life terms, their ascension to office needs to be a carefully thought out selection process - not merely a watered-down popularity contest to be manipulated by whatever passing political fancy might be sitting in the White House.

The McCarthy era in the 1950s underscored what happens when petty tyrants are allowed to go too far in playing at being judge, jury and executioner for the nation at large. George W. Bush has taken McCarthyism to a whole new level, seeking to blacklist anyone who has questions about his administrations methods for national security, for illegal wars or for any of the other egregious governmental transgressions committed by this gang of Outlaws who claim to be the legitimate government of this country. The Bush administration under the leadership of the current Attorney General Gonzalez has reinstated Star Chamber proceedings, secret trials without charges, unfounded accusations from un-named accusers, torture and prison camps without end - all of this created under the totally false pretense for the bogus attack upon the United States on 9-11-01.

Under the Bushwhackers, secrecy is inviolate, illicit profits are the goal and damage to the planet or the environment are of no consequence when measured against the bottomless pit of their personal greed under their self-ordained "authority" None of this has anything to do with a legally constituted government, but rather represents the use and abuse of all our nation'l assets and resources. In other times and places this would have been considered treason against the people of this country: but since the imposition of the events of 911, all of this continues to be shoved beneath the stench of lies and deception that masquerades as "National Security."

Granny D goes on to say: "If you wonder why the other side of the political aisle seems so resistant to the facts, it is because they are not interested in what works, what is pragmatic, they are interested in obedience to authority. It is nothing less than mental bondage to the cult of authority. ~ Better leaders can make great differences in the life of a society, but we cannot elect them if we do not change from electoral organizing to social organizing."

And in summation she says: "We must help people see through the mental traps that they are victim to, and we must do this by telling it like we see it, by asking them to see that the pro-life, pro-war movement is really a cult of death, that fundamental Christianity represents the opposite of Christ'·s teachings, that authoritarian control and elite profiteering are only the strings of the far right's puppet show."

"Let us return to real politics in the neighborhoods - especially those neighborhoods where we are most needed. As it stands now people who do not receive the support they need from an ever-receding community are turning to the very churches that are politically killing those needed government services. This is a dangerous tailspin that we can only arrest with a political return to the neighborhoods. Let us demand of our party leaders that we move from electoral to social organizing so that there is more rock and less hot air under our candidates as we move into the future."

" we must bring the light of consciousness to people who are enslaved by the darkness. We must show them - make them see - the clear links between the Taliban and the American fundamentalists. It is about power, male power, and subservience. Why can't a young girl in trouble get an abortion in the preferred world of the fundamentalists? It isn't because of the sanctity of life, or the fundamentalist would be acting to preserve life by getting medicine to Africa instead of impeding it. They would be halting executions and building up our institutions of peace."

The criminals in our midst have come for our rights and for our freedoms, if we continue to yield to their demands unchallenged, then we shall soon perish under the weight of their fascist tyrannies. We have said that we stand for civil rights and for the rights of women around the world, yet what we tolerate from this administration is unspeakable.

Political rhetoric has been overflowing from the sewers that continue to spin the lies of the mass media - yet we do not demand more by way of an accounting for what passes for national and international news. Freedom can only breathe when people are willing to defend their right to those freedoms. Without a willingness to risk life, there can be no real freedom for anyone. Having these "rights" written down on yellowing parchment is nothing at all, unless there is access to the promised protections. The protections of the Bill of Rights are accessible to the elite who have the money to file their cases in federal court but to no one else. Democracy is only an empty political concept unless it is practiced.

For decades we have become evermore distant from politics and from those who literally have our lives in their hands - the time has come to make congress accountable and to change the direction that the Bandits have charted for us all, but at some point we must redress the problems of the 1860s and clearly choose which line of authority we want to govern over the people of this nation. The question of this day is whether we shall choose life, or the death by a thousand cuts of this 12th century insanity that is now trying to dominate us all. This is one choice that must be ratified by the actions of what we choose to do as people and as citizens of this country.

Under the current status quo, just as the real Bandits are incapable of managing to cope with natural disasters of mega proportions, the nation cannot actually handle an attack from beyond our shores, or from within our borders. These predatory people have no respect for the lives of the working poor, for people of color, for women or for anyone not directly a member of their elite little group of thieves. Is this what you thought America was ever really all about?
