- Iraqi Resistance forces in the northern Iraqi city of
Mosul met the US Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld Friday morning with
a barrage of 36 Grad rockets that blasted into the US al-Ghazlani airbase
headquarters of the local American troops where Rumsfeld was visiting.
-
- Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the Iraqi Resistance
announced that it had carried out an operation named "Share Hell with
Your Soldiers" that began at 5:30am local time shortly after Rumsfeld's
helicopter touched down in al-Ghazlani base. The barrage ignited massive
fires followed by the roar of secondary explosions as American munitions
started going off. The thunder of the blasts could be heard throughout
the city of Mosul, the correspondent reported.
-
- The correspondent wrote that he personally saw US helicopters
evacuating casualties while other helicopters came in to work on extinguishing
the fires inside the base. Local witnesses, Iraqi puppet police, and so-called
"rapid deployment forces" confirmed to the Mafkarat al-Islam
correspondent that the US Defense Secretary left the base in a C130 airplane
with airborne escort after the 36 rockets blasted in. Resistance fighters
tried to shoot down Rumsfeld's airplane with a SAM-7 rocket, but the missile
went off course, leaving all the fleeing US aircraft unscathed.
