Naval Air Station, Memphis
Tennessee Silvery Disk

Hi Brian,

In light all the other military UFO experiences being recently related, I thought it time to tell what my older brother saw in summer 1967 at the Naval Air Station, Memphis Tennessee. Although designated as NAS Memphis, the base is actually located adjacent to Millington TN.

My brother was at the time, in training as a jet engine mechanic. He was working in a hangar near the main runway one day in summer 1967. It was late morning, and a C-117 (updated version of the C-47, R4-D, DC-3) was on final approach for a landing. As the plane came in over the end of the runway, my brother and his fellow airdales noticed that there was a silvery disk about 25-30 feet in diameter, above the cargo plane, and following it in. The C-117 landed, and taxied to the end of the runway. The disk was above the plane the entire way, accelerating up and out of sight when the plane reached the point where it turned to taxi back to it,s parking spot. At lunch, there was an excited buzz about the "UFO. Seems almost everyone on base had seen the disk, and the scuttlebutt was that the weather officer in the control tower had taken photos as well.

After lunch everyone on the station was called, by unit, to the base assembly hall to be "debriefed about the event. No information or explanation was given for the silvery disk, but all were ordered not to discuss the incident with anyone. Court martial was threatened for anyone who disobeyed this order. No further word about the alleged photos. It was assumed that they had been sent up channels.

My brother did not divulge this story to me until the late 1970s, when he had been out of the Navy for almost 10 years. To this day, it gives him the creeps to talk about it. If there is anyone reading this who was there at NAS Memphis on that summer's day, please contact me C/O Brian Vike.

I would like to extend my deepest thanks to the person for getting this story out into the publics eye. Seeing there would have been a good number of military folks on the base at the time of this incident I am requesting that they please come forward and contact me. Also I want everyone to know that I will not give out anyone's personal information to anyone.
