]A Rising Fire Ball

Date: 1947
Time: Evening

Around 1947, while I was still in high school and washing the dishes every night for my mother, I saw a strange sight. I had finished cleaning up the kitchen and I went outside to take some trash to the garbage can. It was well after dark and as I had the lid off the garbage can, I was facing in a easterly direction - toward a vacant lot next door to our house and my attention was drawn (I could hardly have missed it!) to a very bright ball of fire rising silently and slowly above the neighbors trees. Its apparent size was about twice that of a full moon and I called it a ball of fire because it looked exactly like a round bon-fire in the sky!

It had the colors of a flame and the light shimmered and flickered like a flame and, while it was perfectly round, the edges may have been a little fuzzy and not sharply defined. (I have seen parachute flares and this was nothing like them) As it rose, it was moving somewhat to my right, and slowly ascended until it reached a point almost at a zenith (I don't really understand azimuth - but I assume elevation must mean overhead is 90 degrees and halfway up is 45 degrees) If that is the case, it began around 15 or 80 degrees elevation and rose until about 75 or 80 degrees and then, as if someone threw a switch, the light went off ! It was an eerie sighting and there was no sound.

I remained outside for another 10 or 15 minutes, hoping to see something else. In a dew minutes I saw something like 2 meteors, streak across the sky, from horizon to horizon, almost at the blink of an eye !
It was the size and brightness of a star, and if I had not been standing still, looking up, I probably would never have seen it.

About 5 minutes later, there was a second one, which duplicated the performance of the first. But, no more fireball. I attributed the star-streaks to meteors, even though I have never seen one flash all across the sky without burning out. At this time, I had heard about flying saucers, so that is what I called the ball of fire, even though it wasn't green like those being studied by Dr. Lincoln LaPaz.

Earlier that year, an acquaintance of mine had been shot and killed by a bouncer in a Louisiana night club, for sailing an ash tray across the dance floor and shouting, "There's a flying saucer !"

It's hard to draw this 3-dimensionally ! The azimuth, or elevation should appear to be higher in the sky and more over head if it's course had been toward my position it would have been almost over me when it turned off. I have no idea how far away it was or how high it was, but it wasn't low enough for it's light to be reflecting off the house tops.

My impression was that it was at least 2 or 3 thousand feet up, but that is only an uneducated guess.

If it was very high, then it wasn't rising, but flying level and just appeared to rise.

Thank you to the witness for the report.

Our Close Encounter

Hwy 69 Between Jacksonville And Dallas, Texas

Date: Spring of 1955
Time: Approx: 9:30 - 10:00 p.m.

My wife and I were returning to Dallas, where I was enrolled in Baylor University, College of Dentistry, and she was attending Southern Methodist University, after a weekend visiting our parents in Port Arthur, Texas.

It was a Sunday night with pleasant weather - a cool night with no clouds, no wind, no moon, and very brilliant stars.

We had been on the road for a couple of hours and my wife was asleep, but was on the front seat (we were in a Plymouth Coupe).

After topping a small rise, I became aware of a multi-colored string of lights in the sky over the road about a mile or so ahead of us. My first impression was that of a neon sign in which the lights are blinking in sequence so as to give the illusion of motion. The apparent motion was from my right to the left.

As I drove closer to it, I became aware that it was not just a single string of lights because I could see that it was an elliptical string of lights with a backside to it. Since it was a very flat ellipse, that told me that the object had a very flat bottom, since any kind of vertical projection would hide the string of lights on the backside.

As I further approached it, I became aware that the object seemed to be hovering, stationary, over the right side of the road and the closer I got to it the more I begun to perceive that it was really not elliptical, but circular in shape. At this point, I began to realize what I was seeing and I reached over to awaken my wife, in time for her to sit up and see it through the windshield a few seconds before we actually drove underneath it.

I mentally calculated it's height at less than 100 feet, using it's elevation in relation to the string of telephone poles as I approached it.

I pulled the car over to the shoulder of the road and stopped, directly under the object. I'm sure I turned off the ignition, but I may have left the lights on. (No memory of electro-magnetic effects)

We got out of the car and stood there, looking up at the beautiful and awesome spectacle, with no fear, just wonder.

Now I can tell that the sequential flashing of the lights wasn't just simulating movement, the object was actually revolving - counter clockwise. The lights were equally spaced around the perimeter of the disk, and they were like a string of Christmas tree lights of alternating colors. My memory is that there were four colors, but there might have been only three. It was red, blue, white and green, repeated over and over. I don't know the exact number of lights. I was too much awe-struck to count them, and because of the blinking and revolving it would have been difficult to do, but I think there were about two dozen at least.

I was impressed with the fact that here was a large (30-35 foot diameter) vehicle, hovering over me, suspended, motionless (except for revolving) in the air by a power source that was absolutely silent ! What I was witnessing was impossible ! I knew immediately that it was un-earthly, far beyond the limits of our current technology. (I had been a avid student of aviation ever since the early years of World War 2) Also I noticed that the body of the craft was dark, but solid, because it blocked out the brilliant stars of the very dark night.

This was not the first UFO that I have seen, but it was by far the best sighting. I had read several books about them and was quite interested in the subject and so I was very curious to know more. As we stood there, looking straight up at this marvelous sight for about ten minutes, I became impatient for it to do something. I wanted it to do something to acknowledge our presence. I hoped it would land, but it just kept hanging there.

I began to wonder if it had seen us, and I began to look for some way to attract its attention.

I reached into the glove compartment and brought out a Smith and Wesson .38 Police Special and thought about bouncing a bullet off the bottom of the object to attract their attention ! I didn't do it because the thought came to me that if I did it they might react violently, misunderstanding my motive !

About that time, the object began to drift away so slowly that I could have kept pace with it by running or trotting. It maintained the same elevation and crossed an open pasture that was three or four hundred yards wide and then it was lost from view as it just cleared the treetops on a low hill.

We waited for about ten more minutes, hoping that it would return, but it did not. During all this time there were no other traffic on the road, and there were no farm houses visible.

In 1955, there had not yet been any reported cases of abduction by aliens which accounts for the fact that we were not afraid to be out there, all alone at their mercy. In fact, in view of all the abductions that have been reported in recent books - some of which occurred many years ago. I wonder why we weren't picked up ? At that time, I was 25 years old, and my wife was 20 , prime ages for abductees. maybe we weren't their type !

Giving up, we got back into the car and resumed our trip to Dallas. My wife immediately went back to sleep. the next day, when I brought up the subject, she thought she had dreamed the whole thing. We kept the whole affair to ourselves, and it was more than twenty years before we even told our parents.

As I remember, we arrived at out destination at about the normal time. I do not think we lost any time.

Texas, Near Ozona

Date: 1960s

In the late sixties, I went on a deer hunting trip with two friends to a place in west Texas near Ozona.

At the end of one days hunt, while eating supper, my attention was drawn to a very bright star which kept bothering me because it was in the wrong portion of the sky.

Finally, I got tired of wondering about it, so after finishing my meal, I dug out my binoculars (7x50) and focused them on infinity.

Placing the binoculars on top of our car for stability, I was able to clearly see that this was not a star or planet. (It was very low in the northern sky) but it was a golden globe with a small red light on the top and a small green light on the bottom.

The binoculars remained untouched and without being moved, on top of the car for twenty minutes and the object remained in the field of view for the entire time, a feat impossible for planets or stars, which are constantly moving.

finally after about thirty minutes of immobility, the object began to drift almost directly away from our position and in a few more minutes it could no longer be seen.

It seemed to be about two to three miles or more away.

Thank you to the witness for the report.

Bathurst, N.S.W.Australia

Date: June 1989

Gday just viewed the new footage of the Jet and UFO video in the USA (highspeed).

I witnessed something the same but much slower 16 years ago DownUnder it looked like a white plastic shopping bag following behind an aircraft doing around 360 knots at 1700 feet the aircraft and object was witnessed buy myself and two other men, as we were waiting for this aircraft to pass as it was traffic on the day. It was sunny clear weather no cloud cover and we were ready to taxi from the airfield below located in Bauturst N.S.W.Australia.

The object just simple followed the aircraft but not fast or out of control just enough to keep up ,the aircraft was an Australian Navy HS748.turboprop EW Trainer. This happen around early June 1989.

Sorry no photo (regards)

P.S. What could this have been any ideas????

Thank you to the witness for the report.

Manzano Mountains, New Mexico

Date: Various
Time: Between 9:00 - 11:00 p.m.

Hi Brian,

We have a farm East of the Manzano Mtns. in New Mexico and see the aircraft mentioned in your article on a daily basis. We milk at an odd hour in the evening due to my boys playing little league and see these craft at a minimium several times a hour between 9 pm and 11 pm when we finish our chores. These craft always fly higher than normal craft, a fact easily discerned due to our being in a major flight path for the Albuquerque and Kirtland Airforce bases.

Additional Information:

What we have been seeing are aircraft that during the night have far different light pattern than the normal light patterns we are so familiar with living under a major air traffic area. We see the one big light to the front come on before many of the planes get past us, but this still keeps the regular flying lights visible. Many company's seem to have their own way of lighting as to identify their planes, which come in a myraid of patterns. The light sequence may blink and just be the same color all the way around, one side may blink while the other is dark, or the sequence may involve all around blinking in turn-front, left side, back, right side then begin again.
These other craft, instead of having the usual limit of two or three colors have a far more intricate pattern which moves just fast enough. I'm not keeping up with it visually/mentally. The colors are far more than normal and in addition they fly in the altitude the military generally uses, either for chem-trail laying or just flight movement. The speed is like the military craft we see on a daily basis, so it wouldn't surprise me if these craft were military in nature.

A side note here also. We have been having a number of sonic booms here as of late where we can't find the plane. That speaks to me of two possibilities. Either they are moving so fast we won't be able to see them-or they are camflauged to match our blue blue sky.

Have a great day.

Thank you to the person for this information.

Atascadero, California

Date: July 1991
Time: 2:00 p.m.

Location of Sighting: in the north west sky.
Number of witnesses: 1
Number of objects: 1
Shape of objects: oval shape.

Full Description of event/sighting: As I went outside from my house and walking back down the driveway I saw one metallic oval shape object hovering in a still position. As I was watching, it was as if someone flicked a light switch off and on as the object moved from one position to another. This occurred three times, each time the object moved to a different position and then it just disappeared.

I came into the house and told my wife what I had witnessed.

When I was about ten years old, sometime in 1953 a friend of mine and I were sitting on a swing set in my back yard and saw the same thing, only at that time there were three objects, all moved in unison. That event lasted about ten to twenty seconds, same length of time as in 1991.

Thank you to the witness for the report.

Apache Junction, Arizona

Date: 1997

I just thought you would like to know in 1997 my sister and cousin where on there way to Apache Junction, the craft that was reported over Phoenix flew over the car they where driving. She has been reluctant to report what they saw, two of the lights, one on each end flew off in separate directions as it was heading towards Phoenix she said. whatever it was, it was huge, also she said she felt very small and that this was not earthly. She was a skeptic until that evening. I will try to get her to come forward, or at the least to email you. Remember Apache Junction, the distance to Phoenix. Flares, yeh right!

Thank you to the person for this report. I hope I will have his sister talk to me.

Burke Mountain, Port Coquitlam

Date: January 4, 2004
Time: Daytime

Hi Brian, this photo was taken in the first week of Jan. 04, the object is over Burke Mnt. in fact its almost directly below the area in the sky where I've been seeing those lights the past few days. Believe it or not but there appears to be something up there right now. Its quite heavily overcast right now over the mountains with just the odd clear spot and I've seen a number
of white strobes over Burke Mnt. and over Heritage Mtn. and just before the sun set, saw a flash like from a mirror come from one of those clear spots. I've checked with my binoculars but can't see the source so don't think their coming from aircraft.

Thank you to the witness for the report and photos

Milton, Florida - Triangle

Date: June 5, 2004
Time: 10:40 p.m.

Two witnesses observed one triangular shaped craft.

Full Description of event/sighting: I was visiting with my neighbor , we were sitting on his front porch talking when I noticed 2 shooting stars from the South , I called them to his attention, I then saw what looked like a star moving slowly in sky, My neighbor noticed two more lights behind it and they formed a triangle, no other lights were noticed, There were no clouds this night and the object was traveling from the West to the East-Southeast. It moved slowly and remained in the triangle position for the duration of 5 minutes, then each light blinked off, first the front, then the left rear light and then the right rear, and it was gone.. No aircraft was noted in the area and it was moving ever so slow..We assumed it was one object because you could see no stars between the lights. We have looked for it again on several occasions and it has not shown up to date, at least not yet.

Additional Information:

Hi Brian,

In response to your email , when this object was seen it was as if it was trying to mimic the stars, the lights were the same color as the stars and we did not notice any other lights just the 3 white ones, ( I doubled checked all this info with my neighbor). We noticed no tail nor trail following object, but we both feel it was to high to notice that. We notice no aircraft in the area at the time of the sighting, nor after wards, in fact my neighbor made mention of this the next day after the sighting. As I stated earlier we feel this object was higher than our commercial aircraft can fly, it was a clear night and this thing was way up there which leads us to believe it was huge..(lights were about bb size.) It flew in a pattern from west to east, southeast, it did not waver at all and kept its perfect triangular position and you could not see any stars thru it. We watched the object for about 5-8 minutes or from about 10:40 to 10: 50 pm or so. We live on the bay across from Pensacola Florida and Gulf Breeze Fl, we are surrounded by military bases IE: Penscola Naval Air Station, Whiting Field, Eglin Air Force base and Hulbert Field, not to mention Tyndal AFB in Panama City, We also have The Penscola Airport across from us and are familiar with the different aircraft in our area.

Thank you to the witnesses for the report.

San Francisco, California

Date: June 11, 2004
Time: 11:30 a.m.

Hi

I saw a cylinder shaped craft on June 11th, 2004 around 11:30 a.m.. I live in San Francisco, CA and I was walking to my home in Potrero Hill. I was looking at the Bernal Heights Hill, south of San Francisco city when I saw a shiny object in the
sky that caught my attention.

I thought it was a plane, as there is the SF International Airport just south of the city and it appeared to be lowering in a lazy curve. What struck me as odd was it seemed to be pointing it's front end almost too steeply toward the direction of the ground. That and I could not discern any wings on the object.

A passing thought that occurred to me was that it might be some strange metal capsule dropped from somewhere. Even the idea of a missile in how it was moving and shaped which crossed my mind.

It looked exactly like that QuickTime movie.

I'm not sure what I saw, but I know it wasn't a plane. It had no wings.

Also forgot to mention. As it was coming down, I blinked and it was gone. Then almost immediately one of those planes with the long contrails quickly flew in the direction of where the object has last been seen.

Thank you to the witness for the report.

Vancouver, B.C. - Lights Flash

Date: June 11/12, 2004
Time: Approx: 11:30 p.m.

June 11, -23:30 + or - 10 min. -- Sky cleared for a while after dark and I saw on the video, two more of those lights flash on for a second in the same area as the other night. Approx. 1 to 2 degrees east of Magnetic North and at about a 45 degree angle of inclination from my location. Did the usual one frame at a time check, expecting to possibly see the same lights and shape but this time both lights appeared to be round and were surrounded by a narrow ring of black instead of the triangular shapes of the other night. I had the camera set with a slight zoom (aprox. 5x )on the lense instead of wide
angle like the other night but the lights still appeared to be a little smaller as if in higher orbit. Aprox half an hour later I noticed a slight shimmering effect and all the stars in the area were covered by something which just seemed to suddenly appear and just as quickly disappeared. It appeared to have three large round white lights, laid out in the shape of a triangle and pretty well filled my screen from edge to edge.

I first thought I must have bumped the camera but when the object vanished again the stars were still in the same location. I tried looking at it one frame at a time to see if I could see its edge as it moved over the stars but all I could see was a slight blurring of the stars and then they were gone and I was unable to see any clearly defined edge to the object so was unable to determine its actual shape or size. It just seemed to materialize in that spot and then dematerialized again. Unable to determine its altitude but it appeared to be in orbit so it must have been enormous to fill my screen like that. June 12, Have been running that section of tape back and forth at various speeds and zoom ratios.

I believe I finally figured out how it appeared so fast and then vanished again. I think it was already in the picture blending in with the other stars and then just accelerated straight at the earth, stopped and then just as fast reversed back to where it had been. I can take already recorded images and digitally zoom in them by a ratio of 5x and by doing this and playing one frame at a time can see one light, shift slightly and enlarge all within one or two frames. Re. the idea that something may be going to happen very soon, I've had the same thoughts. I've watching the skies for many years now, but have seen more weird objects in the past year, then in the previous sixty. As you know I have a pretty good view to the
north but often tell my wife, I wish I could go up on the roof of this tower and be able to see all around. She tells me I am never satisfied.

Thank you to the witness for the report.

Vernon, British Columbia

Date: June 13, 2004
Time: 11:30 p.m.

Hello Brian

I was watching a gold ball crossing the sky 50 degrees from horizon, SSE to NNW and I thought I was watching a satellite. It remained visible as it cruised by the halfway flare point and as I kept track of it, it began to pulse every four seconds until it went out of sight in the north sky. The best comparison I can make is that it pulses to a light the size and brightness of Jupiter.

Take care.

Thank you to the witness for the report.

Sonora, California

Date: June 14, 2004
Time: 12;00 a.m.

Here we go again! We were facing east, as always, when we noticed a light in the sky traveling south. This thing would blink in, brighten, then blink out. It did this four times. Each time it would blink in it was further ahead than it was when it blinked out. It moved very rapidly. Video was captured of one of the blink-ins-and-out. It moved far too fast to capture the whole thing on video, unfortunately.

Thank you to the witness for the report.
