- "Considering the fact that the rover was going to
drive directly toward those rocks, wouldn't it be kind of nice to have
the spektrometer reading for that section as well?"

-
- Dear Dave, thank you for your great mars science done
so far. Since I read your posting on rense.com two days ago I immediately
changed my agenda and started some efforts to promote the story. Yesterday
I tried to propagate it to the top mainstream journals here in germany.
I had a detailed conversation about the object with the chief mars mission
journalist of one of the biggest german weekly magazines. He was quite
frank about his worry of risking his respectability but seems to be interested
anyway. I also contacted people of Mainz university who are responsible
for the Moessbauer spektrometer as they have their own staff at JPL mission
control. I don't share your pessimism about the destruction of the object.
Comparing the front cam animation of sol 12's drive to the rock outcrop
with the large panorama on which the object can be found one can notice
by the perspective of some features on the horizon that the rover took
a slightly diagonal way from left to right. It proabably closely passed
the object, leaving it behind on the right. How close that was when the
rover stopped three days ago to examine the soil is hard to tell. Maybe
the object was within reach then. Please keep your spirit up. We only have
the next few days while Opportunity is working within the crater to propagate
the story to an extent that Nasa/JPL has to release a statement about what
they think the object might be. Because after the rover will have left
the crater there's virtually no way to get it back inside to take a close
look on the stuff. With best regards, Mirko
-
-
- Hi Mirko,
-
- This is a moment that won't last long, and, in the face
of certain resistance, the moment must be seized. I salute you.
-
- You mentioned the Moessbauer spektrometer. There is a
point there that I haven't even mentioned yet: Opportunity shot a mineral
map of the crater wall. This should be a perfect chance to get clues about
the object's makeup.
-
- Alas, the mineral map omits that section of the crater
containing the object and the layered outcrop. Considering the fact that
the rover was going to drive directly toward those rocks, wouldn't it be
kind of nice to have the spektrometer reading for that section as well?
-
- One has to ask one's self why.
-
- Dave
-
-
- So you maybe see something on a low-res, grainy photo
from Mars, zoom in whatever on that "object" is (of course the
reader doesnt even know if it really was there to begin with), and of course
BEING THE EXPERT YOU ARE ON INTERPLANETARY AND GALACTIC PHOTOGRAPHY AND
SPECIES ID, you claim that NASA "hides" and "destroys"
"evidence" and its a big cover up and they did all this wrong
and so-on...
-
- WHAT PROOF DO YOU HAVE OF ANY OF YOUR ALLEGATIONS?
-
- MAN GET REAL - YOU HAVE NO 'EVIDENCE" OF ANYTHING
EXCEPT A FRIGGIN LOW-RES PHOTO. THAT COULD BE ANYTHING IF IT IS ANYTHING
AT ALL
-
- Hey we'd all love to find life on another planet and
probably will some day but I wouldnt convict NASA of any crimes against
humanity just yet.
-
- You could have simply wrote "What Is This?"
and used your photos - youhave no idea what that thing is - and we all
have no idea if it is really there at all.
-
-
- Hi Dale,
-
- I did, as you suggested, write about the object in a
"What is this?" tone. The result was silence. I also had written
to a number of officials (and NASA) before ever saying anything at all.
I never heard back from any of them. If they knew what it was, all they
had to do is say so, and they had plenty of chances.
-
- This is not a "low-res" photo. The .tif version
is over 40Megs, the .jpg is 8Megs, and the object is clear as day. Anyone
that wants to can look at the pictures in NASA's archives (a number of
people have found copies of it). There are also four other pictures of
the object that were taken on Sol 2.
-
- I am not an "interplanetary expert". But I
am a damn good fossil hunter. This object does not look like a rock or
piece-of-the-craft to me. If it is, all NASA has to do is explain what
piece it is, and I'll be eating humble pie for the next ten years.
-
- Maybe you can be the one to motivate them to "pony
up" some answers. That would be quite useful! I'll be waiting to hear.
Dave
-
-
- If you notice, the pictures you posted are not the only
ones that look at the "objects" location. The section of the
Pancam shot that shows the object appeared on Sol 2, and the first half
of the movement you show occurred on Sol 7, whereas the "destruction"
occurred later, on Sol 12.
-
- On Sol 7, and before the Sol 12 drive, after a less than
2 meter movement (which obliviously falls short of the object), this picture
was taken: http://marsrovers.jpl.nasa.gov/gallery/all/1/f/007/1F12881
- 4868EFF0215P1003L0M1.HTML
-
- The object isn't there.
-
- I think this supports the "it was landing debris/chaff
which was only ever imaged within 48 hours of landing, but which subsequently
blew away" hypothesis pretty well.
-
-
- Daniel Crotty
-
-
- Dear Daniel,
-
- I hope you're right. But I still want to hear an answer
from NASA, and I want to know which piece of the craft it was. We could
verify it and clear the agency's its name. It doesn't seem like a lot to
ask.
-
- Dave
-
-
- HI!! MAN,
-
- IF YOU THINK NASA IS HIDING LIFE ON MARS, ETC. WHY DON'T
YOU FILE A LAW SUIT? SUE NASA.
-
- --SOMEONE HAS FILED A CLASS ACTION SUIT, AGAINST JANET
BECAUSE SHE SHOWED HER BREAST AT THE SUPER BOWL. HOW STUPID!! WHEN EVERY
BABY SUCKS BREASTS.
-
- YOU WANT ACTION DO SOMETHING, FILE A SUIT AGAINST NASA,
HOLD A PROTEST AT JPL OR NASA HEADQUARTERS. DO SOMETHING.
-
- GET THE MEDIA INVOLVED. SITTING ON YOUR ASS AND WHINING
WILL NOT GET YOU ANYWHERE.
-
- REMEMBER THIS IS ELECTION YEAR, AND NASA DEPENDS ON TAX
DOLLARS, MAKE THIS A POLITICAL ISSUE.
-
- A MAN MUST BELIEVE IN HIS CONVICTIONS AND ACT ON THEM.
-
-
- Dear Nathan,
-
- My conviction is that if I file a lawsuit against an
agency that is funded by me, I would have to pay for both sides of the
battle, cause years of wasted time, and possibly even reduce the effectiveness
of NASA.
-
- Nah.
-
- All I want is for them to stay (get?) honest. I hate
being lied to. An open forum with free-flowing information is the best
way to tackle a situation like this. I'm willing to be wrong in front of
millions of people just to get an honest answer. But so far, we have no
answer at all. Not good.
-
- PS: If you think I didn't get the media involved, how
did you read the story?
-
- Dave
-
-
- Good eyes!
-
- The picture link is still on the JPL website:
-
- You should post this link to prove the validity of these
pictures.
-
- Best regard,
-
- Jimmy
-
-
-
- Thanks Jimmy, will do! - Dave
