Columbia Flight Data
Recorder Found

3-20-3

(AFP) -- The space shuttle Columbia's flight data recorder has been found intact, the independent commission investigating the tragedy said.

"The flight data recorder was found on the ground" in Hemphill, Texas, said Laura Brown, a spokeswoman for the Columbia Accident Investigation Board (CAIB) said.

"It's intact and it wasn't in water, which is good news. We are very hopeful some data can be recovered," said Brown.

The recorder has been taken to NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston.
