- Israeli occupation soldiers have apparently preyed on
a new Palestinian victim to perform on him the so-called "lottery
game" whereby a Palestinian boy or youngster is forced to chose the
form of torture he must undergo at gunpoint.
-
- The Palestinian press on Monday reported that Israeli
occupation soldiers manning an outpost north of Ramallah abducted on Sunday
a Palestinian abducted Firas Sarafandi, 23, and forced him at gunpoint
to choose a folded piece of paper out of many, showing the form of torture
he must experience.
-
- According to eyewitnesses, the sadistic soldiers savagely
and mercilessly beat Sarafandi for half an hour, using rocks and the butts
of their guns.
-
- Sarafandi, who lives in the nearby Jalazon refugee camp,
was rushed to the Zayed hospital where he was diagnosed with a multiple
fractures in his knee and lower thigh.
-
- Sources at the hospital said Sarafandi would undergo
a surgical operation to fix the bone fracture.
-
- Several Palestinians were subjected to the brutal "lottery"
practice in the Hebron area last month.
-
- The Israeli army promised then to "look into the
matter". However, it seems that the army is giving soldiers free rein
to torture and humiliate Palestinians as a means to crush the Palestinian
uprising.
-
- However, it seems that the traumatic experience and other
forms of torture and humiliations meted out to Palestinian civilians are
only deepening Palestinian hatred of Israelis and Jews in general.
-
- Two weeks ago, the Israeli Hebrew newspaper Ha'aretz
quoted a recent psychological study by the Israeli army stating that Israeli
repression of Palestinians constituted the chief motivation behind human
bomb attacks against Israelis. First published 1-13-01
