100 Nations Have Inadequate
Radiocative Safety Measures

6-25-2

UNITED NATIONS - A UN agency says more than 100 countries around the world may have inadequate programs to prevent or even detect the theft of radioactive materials.

The International Atomic Energy Agency says governments must take urgent steps to raise security to prevent theft and recover supplies that are missing.

Since Sept. 11, the organization has increased its efforts to prevent terrorists from obtaining weapons-grade nuclear materials.

There are also concerns that other radioactive sources could be used to make "dirty bombs."
