Hosni Mubarak canceled talks Wednesday with Secretary of State Colin Powell,
capping a difficult U.S. mission that Arabs decried as a failure for not
stopping Israel's offensive against the Palestinians.

- Egyptian officials gave no reason why President Hosni
Mubarak decided not to meet Powell. U.S. and Egyptian officials had said
earlier the two would hold talks after Powell hastily scheduled a stopover
in Cairo as he headed home from Israel.

- BEIJING (PTI) - The tense
Middle East situation, anti-terrorism war, bilateral ties and trade issues
will top the agenda of Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji's visit to Egypt, Turkey
and Kenya from Monday, official sources here said.

- During his four-day stay in Egypt from April 15, Zhu
would meet President Hosni Mubarak, Prime Minister Atef Ebeid and Secretary
General of the League of Arab states, Amr Moussa.

- Zhu would hold talks with Egyptian leaders to promote
strategic cooperative ties in the new century, Deputy Director-General,
Department of West Asian and North African Affairs of the Chinese foreign
ministry, Huang Jiemin, said.
