- The greatest setback civil society suffered in 2001 was
having to let the US government get clean away with the official cover
story about what really happened on 911. Given the dreadful trauma and
pain of the circumstances this was agonisingly unavoidable. But the consequence
was the impossibility of stopping all the horrors that flowed out of it
- the surprisingly well-prepared military aggression abroad and the suspiciously
rapidly-legislated attacks on democratic rights at home.

- The 911 event completely suppressed the surging anti-corporate
globalisation movement which after Genoa (July 2001) was gaining real strength,
and civil society activists have still to recover their momentum. But since
the new year there are encouraging early signs of a growing comeback.

- Beginning most importantly in America itself, increasing
demands for answers to obvious questions about suspicious security and
defense failures that allowed the 911 attacks to be carried out are now
reaching political visibility. This is happening in spite of the corporate
media's propaganda hammer-lock on promoting the official cover story and
continuing to manipulate people within it.

for the development and dissemination of questioning discussion about what

nothing else than to follow this important unfolding issue.

solely for that purpose, "the World Trade Center fire and collapse
will amount to paper- and computer-generated hypotheticals." Manning

interview with the New York Daily News today Manning reiterated his call

- "Just Conspiracy Theories"?

- A major resistance people have to examining these questions
is that they are "just conspiracy theories." Also, because the
implications of even asking them are so profoundly disturbing to our assumption
of implicit trust between government and the governed, it is considered
somehow unpatriotic to do so. But as famed US foreign policy and media
analyst/critic Noam Chomsky has said, the phrase "conspiracy theories"
is usually used as a weapon to discourage institutional analysis and the
asking of awkward questions. But patriotism and democracy are not honoured
by secrecy and deception.

- It needs to be emphasised that what are being put here
are questions, not accusations, questions which given the gravity of the
matter are not only quite appropriate but urgent to ask and to demand satisfactory
and verifiable answers. What would be truly unpatriotic would be to fail
in our duty of citizenship by failing to ask them at all.

- The stakes could not be higher. The 911 attacks were
used by governments as a pretext to justify waging war against one of the
poorest countries in the world, repressing every major civil liberty won
since the Magna Carta, killing all opposition to multinational corporations
- complete domination of the world and accelerating the global dictatorship
of the New World Order. Yet no realistic questioning of how and why the
horrific events of that awful day could have possibly happened has been
publicly allowed for. Truth, democracy and truly honouring the disaster's
victims demand that this change. If a proper investigation shows in any
way that the pretext for the actions governments have taken since September
11 was not legitimate then all those actions can be challenged as being
also illegitimate and justifiably demanded to be reversed and made reparation
for.

Large Airplane Facts

Hello Mr. Rense:
I've followed the comments on the "remote control
conspiracy" on your site. Let me say that Mr. David Foster is the
most credible of all people who are commenting, at least with respect to
the facts surrounding large commercial aircraft and the operation thereof.
I was on the autopilot design team for the MD-11 (a widebody
aircraft that is a follow-on to the DC-10). During development there were
many times I had to bring visitors into my development simulator and "give
them a ride". In such a visit, I was routinely able to teach people
how to use the autopilot to fly the airplane (that includes controlling
speed, heading, altitude, and vertical speed) in no less than 10 minutes.
Given another 20 minutes I could also teach them how to use the computerized
navigation system (called the Flight Management System). If a terrorist
never had to learn to take off or land an airplane, only use the autopilot
in-flight, it would be a piece of cake to use the autopilot to fly the
airplane into a building with no more than about 30 minutes of training.
Those are the facts.
