US Denies Any Knowledge
Of Killing 100 Civilians
By Bombing Village
The Guardian - London

US military officials say they had no information about claims a US bombing raid in eastern Afghanistan has destroyed a village and killed more than 100 civilians.

Witnesses claim warplanes made four passes over Kama Ado, 30 miles south of Jalalabad, apparently dropping more than 25 bombs.

However, Pentagon officials have said previously that they are focusing their bombing campaign on two parts of Afghanistan - southern Kandahar province where the Taliban still have control, and the mountains south of Jalalabad, where more than 600 non-Afghan Taliban fighters and al Qaida members are thought to be hiding in mountain caves.

Kama Ado is located in the foothills of the White Mountains, where the hide-outs are reportedly located.

"After the bombs stopped falling, we heard the voices of children and people and we were very frightened. We didn't know what to do at first, then we decided to save them," said Lalgul, a lolcal farmer at Jalalabad Public Health Hospital where he had brought one of the survivors, a 10-year-old boy.

"Out of a family of 40, only this boy and his grandmother survived."

The boy, Iqhaluddin, suffered lung damage and broken ribs from the bomb's shockwave.

Doctors said he was expected to recover fully.
